Supporting the people of Fiji impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic – August 2021 & February 2022
The very first cause that Touching Lives unofficially supported was to help the people of Fiji who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fiji, being a county of about 900,000 people, was recording over 1000 cases daily at the peak of COVID-19 pandemic. This, together with the associated restrictions and lockdowns, meant that several people in Fiji lost their employment further increasing poverty and hardship.
To support the people of Fiji, Touching Lives arranged a charity soccer match, which was originally scheduled for August 2021 but was finally played on February 20th, 2022. (Delayed due to the restrictions in Melbourne.) This charity soccer match attracted many players that had Fiji close to their hearts, with funds raised totalling $13,000. These funds were passed to the Laxmi Narayan Temple, Rotary Club of Suva and Make a Difference Fiji in Fiji. Through these charities, the funds were used to buy the daily necessities for the families in Fiji that were impacted.
